Good point Jeff. I would be willing to trust anything that Brad Hullings
would have to say on these types of comparision power systems but Brad
isn't rich. He would have to get paid. BTW, I tried to get people to
donate a piddly $100 each to get the 493 researched back when, but no
one would bite. Now it takes $100 just for gas to go to an out of town
event. It truly would have been a cheap and effective way to have known
what we were getting into with the 493.
No one with any real knowledge was willing to share anything concrete
about the 493. I have to say though, that it was just a shame about the
mis conversion on the 493 dyno chart from Rotax. If we all would have
understood that better I imagine the weight difference would have been
much smaller.

An observation....we were never able to get substantiated testing done
for the Rotax 493, so it was hit with a 50# weight penalty, basically
making it a non-factor in roadracing since few top contenders or car
builders use it. Given that history, how can we expect to forge
ahead with a totally different engine/transmission design? Shouldn't
we determine HOW and WHO can do legitimate testing prior to engaging
in this conversation? If not, I fear we will legalize another
engine/transmission with some sort of unsubstantiated
penalty/restriction....and no one will use it....and the water will
get more murky than it is currently.

Hi All,
I'm sure there are some F500'ers out there would that like to
experiment and
explore the possibilities. This thread is only for the ones who would
like
to learn more about the concept of a 600cc bike motor conversion...all
others please don't be offended just use your delete key.
I seem to recall that someone has done an experimental 600cc bike motor
conversion already. What was learned. What is the fit like in say a KBS
MKxxx. I think before anyone pre-judges yeah or nay there should be
as much
info available as possible for all to digest. Right now a lot of
naysayers
are citing the complexities etc. etc. Take a look at some of the FSAE
clutch
and shift setups...some are very simple, some are more complex Can we
discuss this without being told that the sky is falling?
