Richard,
Last year we turned a 2:25.00 with a 494 (No FF draft). The motor was one
we have had for a few years (It was actually the one that broke while
leading the RunOffs 2 years ago) and it had been rebuilt by Brad Hulings at
HRP. This year the track had been repaved (I haven't gone there yet since
the repaving) and it looked like most of the classes had some very fast
times. Basically if you have a good motor, your clutches are right, and
things are handling ok the times are definitely possible. I will say that
handling played a significant role in turning such a low lap time. There
are several places on the track where having the capability to keep your
foot buried in the floor will help to produce a significantly lower lap
time.

I know I will get flaming e-mail for this, and I expect no correct answers,
but:
Does anyone believe that an "off the shelf" Rotax 494 or 493 engine will
propel a F500 car at the incredible speed that we see listed in the June
Sprints race results. (2:26.875) I am not suggesting that anyone is
cheating, but I would like to know who is building these engines and where
do I send my money ?
I have raced their, Road America, and it is most likely the most beautifully
track in America, but to get to these kinds of time seems almost impossible.
Yes I know, great drivers, great cars, but only a few cars make this kind of
speed. Is it luck, great draft behind a FF or what ?
Richard
