In late 1968, my mother received some inheritance money, so decided to use
it to go formula racing (she had raced a CS Mini Cooper S in Cendiv Nationals
for several years before that).  She went out to Carl Haas in NYC in early '69
(before Newman-Haas Racing existed, Carl was a race car distributor) and got a
new Russell-Alexis right off the boat from England.  Since FF didn't yet
exist, she and my father put some fat tires on it and raced FC, until the
class came into existence.  As I recall, they had three race cars that
season, so they could run the CS Mini, the FC Russell or my dad's GP
Spitfire.
