The autoX before phil drove, I was having an understeer problem mid corner when
I was rolling on the power (evil understeer). Turn-in wasn't great, but it
wasn't evil like mid corner. It was only exibiting this behavior in slow hair
pins. Front tire temps were very low, and they had a weird graining on them.
Basically, the car wasn't plowing. I figured my turn-in problem was because
off-line was dirty and I like a bit later turn-in. For non comp runs my friend
jumped in the car who is about 30- 40 lbs more than I am. After his runs the
fronts looked perfect. I didn't even need to get tire temps off them they
looked that good. He said the car was almost perfect. So, I corner weighted
the car front and the front was 43% with no driver. I then added ballast and
got it to 46% no driver.
It rained for the event Phil co-drove. I was having understeer where a
quick turn-in was needed. I'm thinking the front was just too stiff for the
rain. For the last run my fronts were at 8 psi and rears were at 9psi. The
pressure drop in the front seemed to help handling. I do think I have the
handling pretty good for the dry now. You guys do have to remember this was
phils first time in an FM car and he only took one run. Not to mention his
contour requires alot of steering quickly to turn. I think alot of the
understeer was caused by a new driver too.
