Chris,

YES, an e-mail letter/petition was sent in support of the 3" pucks. 61 F500 members voted, 70% approved.

I guess democracy means nothing to the BOD. Aren't we the Sports Car Club of AMERICA?

Shiny Side Up,

I'm new to SCCA but I fail to see the sense of their decision like most of you guys. The way the WKA worked most of the small classes is that the drivers basically decided what they wanted with in reason. There's only a hand full of guys actively running the class, I'm not sure if a letter ever went to SCCA with signatures from all those driver's. We had a similar issue with the WKA where they were going to mandate a 1-way sprag clutch on the axle for the shifters. Their thought was a safety issue in that when the motor stuck, it would put the kart into a spin and the sprag would eliminate it. The main reason it was a bad idea was that there was only one manufacturer for the product. Anyway, we organized the drivers, wrote a letter, had everybody sign it, sent it off to the WKA, and they squashed the idea.

Nobody picked up on this a couple of weeks ago so let's try to get ideas
together and then get a volunteer to present this list to the TV producers early
in the week.
Remember that the F500 broadcast is one of the MAJOR opportunities to market
our class.
Here is a starting point:

F500 is a low budget formula road racing class that uses the following rules
to keep the costs down:
1. Restricted Two Cylinder 2 Cycle snowmobile motor with Continuously
Variable Ratio Transmission in place of a more expensive motor with a geared
transaxle.
2. Rubber (elastomer) pucks inside metal cylinders in place of more
expensive coil-over-shocks and no sway bars are allowed.
3. One piece straight rear axle with either chain drive or rubber cog belt
drive in place of a three piece independent rear axle with ring & pinion gears.
All of the above restrictions keep the cost affordable for the low budget
racer.

Please take this, improve on it and add more talking points so that the TV
commentators become out best salesmen of the F500 class.

Who is going to pick up the ball on this project?

Another brainstorm idea = Keep a site with the Runoffs F500 video within the
F500.org site so anyone can look at it at any time. When somebody asks
about our class, we refer them to _www.f500.org_ (http://www.f500.org) and tell
them to look at the Runoffs video.
Come to think of it, we need to add photos of the F500's running in the Solo
Nationals as well.
What do you think, Eric?

Jim
