I was thinking that low/no oil in the gearcase could
indicate a failed crankseal on that end. If you know
the oil level was full at some point and now it's not,
assuming no external leaks.......
I don't know anything about what was or was not in it, and didn't know that
I needed to look for a problem in that case area until Les gave me an engine
manual a month or two ago. I had been looking for signs of external leaks in
the general area. I went and checked it and found that it took a lot more
oil than I thought a small case like that should. So, I guess I know where
my problem is. Burnt crank seal. Live and learn.
