Thanks for all the responses, but I wasn't asking for opinions on Comet
clutches - I've been using them for 10 years. I was just asking if anyone has
experience with the model that supposedly has the Rotax taper and bosses for
the Rotax ring gear. It would make life a lot easier, because I'm used to
having Comet clutches machined to make them work on a 494/493.

By the way I have 2 brand new comet 4 weight clutches for sale. I bought them
for my old
DSR project & never used them. $75 each. I also have an Aaen 4 post roller
primary.
$400 for the Aaen.

I will bring them to the Runoffs if anyone is interested.

Thanks ... Jay Novak

Subject: Re: [F500] Comet clutch question

Cory - We bought our first Comet clutch in '96 when we got our 1st 494. I
have never had a specific primary clutch problem with them. That being said I
have not been in the top of the field since then. I do NOT relate that to
the Comet. Everything interchanges with the Polaris and you do not have to
get the taper machined aftermarket. I did, on one clutch, have to have the
bosses 'tapped' to accept the starter gear. Comet also has the four tower.
Before buying one of those familiarize yourself with the conversion formula (3
tower to 4 tower) for the fly weights. That's my $0.02 worth.
