I do not agree on the spec shock issue. It would be fairly easy to define a shock valving configuration tha will work with motion ratios from about .8 to 1. This gives a LOT of adjustability by having different rocker holes in the rocker & free springs. I guarantee this would work & the costs would be low.
Another alternative is to have a "spec shock" with free valving. The valving parts for the small Penske I discusse as well as many other take apart shock are very cheap. The only issue is what some guys might do who have access to shock dynos. Thanks ... Jay Novak PS: I am glad to see some interest in the concept. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Chris Reinhardt Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2006 3:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [F500] Joe, it is time to start a new poll Jim, cost is definetly a concern, but i don't think a "spec" shock is the answer. It will more expensive to redesign the car around a spec shock than it would be to design a shock around a car. There's too many different cars, and different suspensions within those cars, to make one shock work. Add to that pulling shocks off your car, and having dyno'd going through tech. Limit what a person can spend on each boinger, and I think that will cover it. The BOD's decision to turn down the 3" puck may have been a blessing in disguise. Earlier I was in favor of 3" pucks but as I have learned more about the need for dampening as the main method of reducing the shock to the chassis I am now in favor of ONE cost controlled, spec'ed, sealed coil over shock that has a supplier's "promise" not to discontinue it in the near future. The spec's should be compiled. A thorough search of the market must be done to ensure that all possible candidates have been uncovered and properly considered. A track test of the top three or four candidates should then be done to provide a comparative analysis. Once the choice is made and approved by SCCA we can then publisize the dickens out of this improvement in hopes of attracting more drivers. When can we start to poll the drivers?
