The 494 cylinders in the RAVE motor were all the same. I checked part numbers and they are the same from 98 all the way to 2001. The difference was in the head. when they went to the RAVE design, they had to bump the compression up a bit due to the RAVE valve changing the "trapped" compression ratio. It's exactly the same compression as our non rave motor, but to get there the head had to be shaved down about 10 thou. I had checked all this out when the talk was us going the 494 RAVE motor. the advantage would have been to put a 494 RAVE head on a non RAVE motor. It would have bumped the comp up about .5% Not a ton, but good enough for 2-3 hp? The RAVE and non rave motors make the same peek HP according to skidoo, just a little more torque at 5000 and below with the RAVE valves. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 1 Nov 2006 7:13 AM Subject: Re: [F500] Runoff Engines

I recall that the major obstacle to approving the 494 RAVE for F500 was that there were several different versions with different porting; a few had significantly greater performance potential......?
