Unless it's a fabricated steel sheet metal upright, sorry it can't be welded.  
The KBS/QRE uses a billet aluminum upright, and depending on what your life is 
worth, I wouldn't weld it....  The early KBS' used a casted piece, I would weld 
that either!!!
