You know, another option would be have a simple spec shock like these
guys have and use pucks for springing right on the shaft, sort of like
our 3" max puck rule. That would allow for lots of tunability, keep
costs very low, and maintain ties to our existing rules of utilizing
pucks. Very cheap to do to. These shocks are dirt cheap, and available
everywhere. JC Whitney has them for like $30 each.

Alternatively Gabrial also makes a booster spring setup that is a true
coil over. I don't know if the spring diameter is the 2" standard size,
but we can easily find that out. I imagine that it is. Check it out ..

This kind of setup wouldn't drive up car costs at all. Maybe we would
legalize an entire model line of a type of shock like this so different
lengths, etc would just involve buying a different model of shock. No
internal shock work would be permitted. This is a pretty exciting
compromise between those that want $200 a corner units versus those that
want to minimize the expense but still have a shock.
