I say you don't know what you're talking about....
The valve adjustments you're talking about are actually cam timing
adjustments, and they usually don't add power to the motor unless they were off
from the factory, they move the powerband. Sprints are all about torque coming
off the corner, so you need to get it dialed in.
"Rebuilds" is a very general term, it depends on how much is being done to
the engine. Every watch a micro race? They run about 14k rpm the entire lap,
they never lift. Alky isn't an option, you either run it, or park it, because
it's too much of an advantage. Ever seen the inside of a alky motor? Alky is
very corrosive, it eats everything, so you have to rebuild those motors at
least once a year if not more.

Did some research on 600cc maintenance cost. 600cc midget racing here in
Pa/DE/NJ is big. Kaw, Yam, and Hon engines stock engines/clutch/cab'd or FI,
open air intake and exhaust. Fuel is optional gas or alky.

1. Stock rebuilds range from $1200 to $1750 depending on how many new parts
are needed.

2. Pipes around $460 w/muffler for 95 db track rules.

3. Appears as if older (?) Kaw motors are easy to find and less expensive.
New motors are faster (better factory porting) harder to find find and much
more costly.

4. Apparently dyno generated valve adjustments settings are a big tuning
component. Cost is approx $500 just to have this done with no dyno time!

After seeing these prices I quite looking for prices on clutch rebuilds.

I suspect a 600cc car will cost considerably more to build with a new/used (?)
engine and cost more to race.

OK Chris R, what say you?

PS Noticed other interesting facts. Huge fields. Four car maker in PA alone.
A complete 600cc midget with options is priced much lower then new F500 cars
ie big market. Also Linda's Speedway, somewhere around Harrisburg, runs a
$10K to win race for this class...yea baby!
