Mark, Most autocrossers run the "shortys"(18s) in an R25 compound. Makes no difference whether the surface is "slick" or not :-). Others, of course, may have differing opinions :-).
I don't know what a "DE" is, but perhaps it's a Time Trial of some sort. As far as those events are concerned, your just going to have to try the 18s in that venue to see if they are OK. Can't help you there.
