Here's a quick recap of the Walnut Ridge, Arkansas Tour and Pro:
It was a strange event because both days of the Tour were combined into a
single day, with a morning session and and afternoon session. We ran the
course in the opposite direction in the afternoon. Then on Sunday we did
the Pro Solo using the new "single course" design.
The Walnut Ridge site has concrete about the same vintage as Grissom, but
without the crumbling sections and unintentional elevation changes. There
is rough aggregate that makes it the stickiest surface I've been on. I
didn't find it as hard on tires as I was lead to believe it would be.
Greg Piper and Gary Kramar had a private shootout during the Tour. Gary
was ahead by less than a tenth in the morning and widened the lead in the
afternoon to win. But it wasn't assured until the final runs. And Greg did
beat Gary by raw time in the morning :-D . We had 9 in the class and 7
were driving F500's.
Sunday's Pro Solo was really more like an AX because it was a single
course design and there was no Xmas tree (growing pains with new
equipment). We got 4 runs. Competition was good. The course was fun. And
this time Greg did eke out a win over Gary. He's making a strong statement
early in the year. Gary, Greg, and I qualified for the Challenge. I decided
I'd had enough fun (knew I'd get whipped in the Challenge) so I left early
and headed back to Ohio. BTW, Gary and Greg were One-Two in PAX for the
Tour overall. Greg was first and Gary third in PAX for the Pro.
Impressive!
It was fun seeing everyone although the 13 hour drive each way was a
little much for a weekend! Results are posted on the SCCA site and
SCCAforums.com. Maybe Gary can fill us in on the Challenge results?
