Hey Steve, just went through this in the last few weeks. I'm running a 493 but it came with a 494 polaris starter. I went nuts trying to get answers on which one to buy. The reccommended starter has a price of $391 (not interested) I finally found a bosch and had many hours of modifying the aluminum bracket. A few grinds (quite a few) and a shim (made from 1/16 aluminum) I made it work. I also drilled out the 2 bolt flange on the old starter and pushed through a steel bushing and I will use that for a backup spare. Good luck, tom manalio [EMAIL PROTECTED]
