I disagree with you (with all due respect) and would contend that driveline shock can only snap a belt if the belt is misaligned or lacks sufficient tension (IMHO, the excess slack combines with the normal driveline shock to snap the belt or break off the teeth).

I have accelerated out of the pits from a standing start and generated tire smoke without any belt slippage, much less damage.

I just sold two cars that, over a period of years, NEVER had their drive belts replaced.

Over the past several years the road racers have had a problem with snapping belts especially as they come back on to the road course from the grass (went off course) and jumped on the gas.
Either way - still don't like standing starts in SCCA racing.
