The result you're seeing is not a crash, but the result of vertex mis- ordering. In the Customizer Model Geometry Integration step, the base model and the morph target must have the same vertex ordering. If not, you will get a random mess of triangles as you have seen. You have to be careful as some operations and some exporters in 3D modelling packages will re-order vertices without telling you.
