Hmm, yea;  from a developer perspective it is much easier.  Makes more sense.

>From a user perspective, sometimes it can be a pain to keep up with 
installing the C library (dll, etc).  The 100% java jdbc interface is a lot 
more plug and play.

Of course, Mark and the MySQL guys can maintain that socket interface a lot 
easier.
