The same thing happened for me on Linux, my solution was this:
./factor -i=./boot.x86.64.image
^
I just addded the current directory specifier to the path, looks like the
latest build does not pass the current working directory on to the bootstrap
process. (maybe so you can bootstrap an image with the source in a different
directory?)
