The problem is a lack of maintainers. Someone needs to package and test it for Ubutu. Currently I'm maintaining a ppa that is coherent with upstream [1], yet adjustments to the config must be made to get it working [2]. This mainly applies to small changes like adjusting the sources.list and packages that have different names. I started working on a generic solution to allow upsteam to support ubuntu out of the box[3], but unfortunately, up to now, there was little response.
