Thanks a lot, that did work. Funny thing though: when I'm trying to overwrite that value with a self generated sendmail-common.local file as suggested, fail2ban doesn't start anymore.
I've put the file containing just one line in the actions.d directory. On "service fail2ban restart" I get: ERROR Error in action definition sendmail-whois-lines[name=ssh, dest="*@***.**", logpath=/var/log/auth.log, chain="INPUT", sendername="Fail2Ban2"] ERROR Errors in jail 'ssh'. Skipping...
