Sorry for not providing this info :-/

I can't see any error in the fail2ban.log, even on DEBUG loglevel. It
seems that the server is detecting the changed logfile:

but just not seeing the failed login.

Mhhh, the owncloud.conf is pasted in the lines 11-14 of the pastebin.
