Is there some reason why you aren't using postscreen, which is part of Postfix, to handle most of these problems?

Note that postscreen is *not* a replacement for fail2ban, it's just that it's designed to stop a lot of email problems before they get to the point where fail2ban notices them.

IOW, use both.

I presume postscreen is delivered as part of Postfix on your distro, I build my own, so I know it is there.

It appears postscreen is part of my distro,  I have never used it.  Will be learning and testing it this weekend for sure.
