TM is a means to fulfillment of life by expansion of awareness to unlimited value that happens to have freedom from addiction as a by-product (because vast awareness cannot be overwhelmed by any phenomena). It's good that people are no longer addicted to drugs regardless of their exit strategy (TM or willpower or whatever), but the average person is just a burro plodding through life without expanding their awareness, whether one uses drugs or not.
