If nothing changes in daily life, what's the point of pursuing enlightenment?

Is it merely that the daily mishegaas goes on, but one's response to it changes?

It was a big part of the TM pitch that higher consciousness improves daily 
life. I'd like 
to test that conclusion against some real-life stories of people who've 
awakened.
