This is so incredibly callous on his part--not only are his theories totally without medical basis, but his comments are only going to make it all the more difficult for her parents to to find any kind of closure. Its cowardly, too, to make totally unfounded claims that clearly prey on the emotions of desperate people, knowing by waiting until the last minute he will never have to prove them.
Why hasn't he spoken up during the 15 years she has been in this condition? If nothing else, he should definitely get a Nobel for chutzpah.
