I think memories of Robin Carlson are at the root of many people's
skepticism of current Fairfielders who claim awakening. But I think there's
a big difference. He was an egotistical lunatic, claiming to be the World
Teacher, having himself invested as Shankaracharya of North America at a
ceremony in Waterworks Park, dropping leaflets on the dome by helicopter,
etc. The many folks now or recently awakening here are much more modest and
natural about it. Some are downright shy and secretive, perhaps because of
the Robin Carlson stigma.
