God Consciousness: Cosmic Consciousness to Unity Consciousness
John Manning - TM teacher, trained by Maharishi in 1970:
Cosmic Consciousness is established permanently when the Self is
realized as Absolute. The Self remains ever fully awake in the
individual while regular waking, dreaming and deep sleep occur as they
always did.

Manning:
God Consciousness is based on Cosmic Consciousness. The Self is
permanently realized as Absolute in Cosmic Consciousness. The
individual remains - experiencing waking, dreaming and deep sleep, as
before.
Going from Cosmic Consciousness to God Consciousness requires a
further refining of the nervous system. [There are advanced techniques
offered by Maharishi to facilitate this process that involve the
heart. But - to my understanding - they are not required.
Transcendental Meditation will do the whole thing - along with a
little information.]
Relative experience consists of gross experience to subtle experience
to the most subtle experience.
All of it can be awakened on the level of the nervous system to be
directly experienced by the practise of Transcendental Meditation.
The subtler levels of relative experience are, within definition, more
pleasing. The most subtle relative level corresponds to what has been
referred to as the *most* pleasing relative experience; the realm of
God, the realm of Divinity.
In Cosmic Consciousness, the individual is in a position to be able to
directly perceive the reality of all of those levels, even including
God, in relative *outer* experience. It involves the heart; love and
devotion, to make it a living reality.
Maharishi:
"Having gained cosmic consciousness, Yoga, or union, is complete. This
union, state of union, becomes glorified through devotion. And
devotion plays a great part. The heart has to be cultured, for the
direct realization of that celestial nature of life is the fully
cultured heart that brings the light of that celestial experience, and
from there, one glorifies cosmic consciousness into
God-consciousness."

Manning:
Once Cosmic Consciousness is established, one can begin to directly
experience those subtler values of relative life *directly* IN
relative life.
As one's practise continues, the heart comes more and more into play
as part of the magnificent capability of the human nervous system.
Relative life begins to take on the more subtle values of meaning and
happiness.
As the heart grows by experiencing the subtler grandness of the
relative creation - love grows. One loves the subtle qualities of all
that can be perceived. Just the smell of a flower, the smile of a
child, the grass under your feet - anything - everything comes to be
perceived in its greater meaning and appreciation. Even the darkness
in life is felt, sometimes painfully, but that darkness comes to be
seen in its ultimate meaning and significant purpose. Those apparent
contradictions come to be resolved in awareness - beyond the
intellect; beyond logical assumptions.
As the heart expands and love for the creation grows [based on its
blissful recognition], the direct perception of Divinity begins to
become more apparent and begins to overtake the meaning of one's life.
What was once a 'concept' of God, now becomes a living reality in
direct perception - not just internally - but in direct outer
experience. Seeing God in everything is developing and now becoming a
*real* direct experience.
As this process continues, the love increases. The love for God and
God's creation [including one's own individuality, and its part in
creation] increases beyond intellectual comprehension. It's only
comprehended by the heart, and based on Cosmic awareness.
The love of the lover for God overshadows any separation. The [now
Cosmic] lover, loves. As this love increases, based on Cosmic
Consciousness, it reaches beyond all boundaries. The devotion of the
lover to the Beloved Divinity breaks all barriers of separation, and
that love is reciprocated. Love unites. Cosmic love unites Absolutely.
The Cosmic lover, the devotee, and God as seen everywhere and in
everything, begin to be nothing other than the same.
As time passes, that *sameness* results in Unity Consciousness. Cosmic
love finds its fulfillment. The lover of God and God are One on the
level of conscious and direct relative experience. There is no
difference.
Maharishi:
"[the enlightened man]...lives in the realm of universal existence. He
moves on earth and he lives in the land of God, in the divine ground
of Being far above human vision and far beyond human thought."

All of this is abstract and has little meaning without its direct
experience.
Maharishi:
"These things cannot be understood clearly enough to bring
satisfaction on the intellectual level...without the experience."

The above, except for Maharishi's attributed quotes, is paraphrased
from memory from my extensive exposure to Maharishi's teachings about
it as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, and my own, albeit, not
fully realized personal experiences. If I have made any mistakes in my
presentation here, they were not intentional.
What I can share from my direct experience is that I have briefly
[about 10 minutes] experienced God Consciousness during rounding at a
course at Asilomar. It cannot adequately be put in words. I didn't
want to come back.
I'm currently studying about Brahman Consciousness in terms of
Samhita. I have a lot to learn.
[I don't post here often at all and won't even see any response to
what I've written at this forum. I write at
alt.meditation.transcendental all of the time. You can respond to me

Transcendental Meditation for regular human beings who wish to
*effectively* reach beyond this temporary world - and live Divinity
