This tendency reached a peak around the time of the historical Buddha called Shakyamuni. The ruling kshatriya class began to resent this imposition of sacrifices by the Brahmin, priestly caste. This is part of the reason that Buddhism had such a rapid rise to power, as the kings, the kshatriyas, saw it as an opportunity to get away from Brahmin domination imposed by the costly yagyas. ---No offense Vaj, you know I
think you're awesome, but can you give some source for this? I mean, Buddha's
teachings were disseminated to only a few thousand people at first but later
have spread over the face of the earth. The fact that established centers exist
in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, proves this. The spread of teachings and
purity of those teachings even now 2,500 years later I think is a sign of
respect for them and really not much more.
I would guess that as now, the
allure of Buddhism for those of lower caste would be due to their being slaves
of brahmins and kshitrias. On the other hand, the allure of Buddhism for the
higher castes would be because it just makes good sense, whereas more
eternalistic, God based systems and nihilistic systems don't make good sense.
Other, more typical yagyas, are simply magical rites using mantras and magical diagrams (yantras), etc. So essentially what you are doing with a yagya what you are doing is paying a priest to perform a magical rite on your behalf to appease some aspect of your subtle environment, for your benefit. ----Which is very selfish and has
a beginning and end, whereas yagyas sponsored for others has further benefit,
and further good karma.
In a perfect world we would all
sponsor each other. So gag me with a yagya. Actually yagyas work on the same
principle as blowjobs. Except the organ is the kundalini chakra or secret
center, and the juice is ojas, and the one giving head is the soma chakra, and
by swallowing the wrathful deitys become happy for a minute, and by spitting the
peaceful deities become happy for a
second. To subscribe, send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/ and click 'Join This Group!' To subscribe, send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/ and click 'Join This Group!' Yahoo! Groups Links
