Bob, did you ever read Denis De Rougement's "Love in the Western World"? IIRC, it goes into some detail on the psychic and physical "armor" of the anhedonistic and controlling personality, as well as of whole cultures, including Nazism. An interesting book if you haven't already read it (which knowing you I suspect you likely already have).
