Yeah, the paying logic doesn't work
since all those people who payed stopped meditating too.

for Jane
People totally immersed in material thinking do not
value what does not cost them, something which MMY found out early in the
movement (saying -- paraphrasing -- "I gave them a pearl, but they regarded
it as worthless, and threw it away"), which is why he began a
reasonable fee for instruction so that people would not start casually,
but consider, because they had to cough up some money that
could otherwise be spent on stuff, whether expanding their awareness
was something they wanted to do.
Of course, the current fee for
instruction is too high, but free, or pocket change, is not the right
price...the price has to be just enough to eliminate casual acceptance of
instruction.
---------- I am not sure about that. Early in 1960 - some learned for free
from MMY, the first time he visited Norway. Some of them became
TM-Teachers, very devoted to MMY. My experience is, that if people really
want to learn TM, and they do not have money, it is better to learn them
for free. Do they afford to pay - let them pay. When I learned TM in 1962,
the course fee was 1/2 months salary, where 50 % went to India - that
was all over the world. The 50 % should cover the costs of building an
Ashram in Rishikesh. Some Newspaper in Norway asked if the Ashram would
be similar to Taj Mahal - caused by all the money sent to India. I
wanted to write a book from MMY early days in Norway, so I have
collected a lot of documents. Now, I wait and see if I ever will finish
the project. By the way, as a student I paid 5 dollars to learn TM in
1962. So it was some flexibility.
