Funny, eh? Men turn out to be, microbiologically speaking, whores. Talk about having a feminine side! Phihhhh! How about having an alien inside every cell of your body!!!!! Just for the money! I love this conversation, because, the good truth about this is that we belong together, work together, fit together, and gender is superficial. Who cares if males or females have the "work" of carrying the gonads or being the thermostat of metabolism or whatever? No matter which side of our biologies are the regulators of whatever process, humankind moves forward.

It was my understanding that mitochondrial replication was nucleically mediated...but it's been a long time since I formally studied genetics or anthropology. I do have colleagues I could ask if experts are needed.
My wife feels that the "alien within" is the (male) Y-chromosome. It's the males who do all the killing after all.
