Almost twenty years ago I sat on the dam at
Desoto Falls in Mentone, Alabama. It was late and I was alone. A
full moon was riding high in the sky. The surface of Little River
was absolutely still. In the moonlight it was difficult to tell
where the water stopped and the land began.
As I sat there I pondered a question�the same
question I�d pondered for many years. How can I tell the story in a
way that people will understand? Then something happened � I had
the answer. Understand what I mean here. I had the entire answer.
Not a vague idea, or the beginning of a plan, I had the answer.
This isn�t easy to put into words but I�ll make
an attempt. The answer was, use this book to tell the story.
A book didn�t fall from the sky and the answer wasn�t, here is an
idea for a book, go write it. The answer was use this
book and I saw the book from beginning to end � I saw every
character, every scene, every line, and every word. I saw the title
and I saw the cover of the book. This is what I saw that night in
1986�

I sold almost 10,000 copies of the book at
workshops and seminars over the next few years then my life took an
amazing turn and I was no longer traveling and speaking. The
remaining copies of Remember! An Encounter with Jesus Christ
were stored in the garage. Occasionally someone would track
me down to let me know that the book was very important to them.
Sometimes they would order copies for friends. A couple of times
churches ordered the book for their bookstore. In spite of that, we
didn�t think much about the little volume as we continued looking
for new and more effective ways to �tell the story.� Note the irony
there.
Then a week ago we received an e-mail asking if
the book was still in print and could copies be purchased. After
filling the order it came to me that once again I was asking the
same question and once again I had received the answer � the same
answer � use this book to tell the story. I picked up
a copy for the first time in years. I opened it randomly and read�
�It�s ironic,
Jamie thought. Fourteen years ago I realized that what I knew about
God wasn�t all true. I saw it in Daddy�s eyes that night. There is
one other question I wish I had asked him when I had the chance. It
might have made the difference�but I didn�t ask and now, I guess,
I�ll never know how Daddy could love being a Christian when there so
many things he didn�t know or couldn�t accept. If I had asked that
question and gotten a good answer I could have saved myself a lot of
pain and I could have saved a few of the people who loved me some
sleepless nights.�
