Yeah, and Mary was a virgin. :-) There has rarely *been* a spiritual teacher who went more out of his way to point out that he was just an Ordinary Joe, a human like everyone else, than the original Buddha. And yet, within a couple of gener- ations of his lifetime people were trying to make him into some kind of avatar, somebody "special," who could do what he did only *because* he was "special." While this is as understandable a phenomenon as the later grafting on of the virgin birth to the Christ story, in my opinion it is just as mistaken and detrimental as that lie was. The majesyt of an enlightened being is not that he or she is different from you and me, but that he or she is the SAME as you and me. If they can do it, so can we.
