I have had a subscription to the New Yorker magazine for the past 10 years and, when not too busy with work, will read it from cover to cover religiously each week.
The one thing I NEVER miss are the cartoons which are the first thing I read when I get a new issue. I think they are the best feature of the magazine. Well, about 7 weeks ago, they started a new feature: the cartoon caption contest...and you don't have to either have a subscription or buy a copy to participate. They provide you with the cartoon and you must provide the caption. Sounds very simplistic but I must tell you I have gotten addicted to it. They start a new contest each week and I find myself spending all my spare time dreaming up and -- yes! -- actually researching possibilities for captions! You can't really participate in the contest if you're looking for a big prize payoff because all the winner gets is a signed copy of the cartoon he has captioned (I don't even know if it's the original!)...so you do it for the fun!
