Vaj - Guru Dev was a disciple of Swami Krishananda of Sringeri and
thus Gur Dev was a tantric guru who practiced the Sri Vidya.

The Sri Yantra at Sringeri, the tantric mnemonic device par
excelence, which reposes behind the image of the Tri Pura Sundari,
at the Sringeri Matha, contains at least two TM bija-mantras
inscribed thereon. So, lets go figure.

The Dasanamis, so called because of having a surplus of ten
surnames, was a sect founded by the Adi Shankara in 792 A.D. at the
Sringeri Matha, which is down in, or should I say over in,
Karnataka, India.

Shankara, as everyone knows, was the author of the famous commentary
on the Brahma Sutra known as the Sutra Bhasya. In addition to
scholarly works, Shankara was also the reputed author of numerous
hymns of a devotional nature, among which is the beautiful Sound
Arya La Hari, the celebrated hymn to the Indian Goddess Shakti.
Apparently, Shankara was also the author of a hymn to Dakshinamurti,
i.e., an Ode to the South Facing Form.

It would be very interesting if, upon examination, either of these
hymns were found to contain any TM bija-mantras. What such a
discovery would mean to a certain respondent on this list, would
certainly be of interest to this fellow. And why? Becuase the other
fellow claimed to have insider knowledge of the Shankara Order by
benefit of his Spiritual Master, a Swami of some repute, whose part-
time domicile just happens to be next door to this humble sadhaks
meagre abode down in, or should I say up in, South Texas.

Said respondent has maintained that there is "not a single temple in
all of Mother India which has any devotional practice that even
resembles the practice of TM" - none, nada, zip. So kindly you say!

So, wouldn't it be surprising to find out, by means of another
insider informer, that, not only are there major temples in India
which adhere to the Mantrayana, but that one of the most important
Mathas in all of India, none other than the Headquarters of the
Dasanami Sampradaya, founded by the Shankaracharya himself, is the
locus of the a tantric sect which specializes in the meditation on
the fifteen bija-mantras of the Srividya cult? Hello!

So, how then are we to reconcile the fact that, on the one hand, we
have a fellow who, claiming to be on the inside track, puts forth
the claim to truth knowledge by insisting that there are no temples
in all of India that have anything to do with the TM bija-mantras?
It should be obvious, even to the casual reader, that this claim is
mistaken. And why?

Because it is now proven that at least two of the most sacred bija-
mantras, out of the fifteen, contained in the Sound Arya La Hari,
are in fact, TM bija-mantras. Now, if the Adi Shankara wrote the
Sounda, then he must of composed said hymn including the fifteen
bijas contained within, would he not?

If so, then Guru Dev, that is, Maharaj Sri, would have had in his
possession, at all times, a facsimile of the Sri Yantra, if not a
copy of the Sounda, or at least, would have memorized at least
twelve of the fifteen secret bijas used in the performance of the
Sri Vidya sadhana down in Karnataka.

That other fellow must be talking about another Sankara, because
according to him, Sankara lived over 500 years before the historical
Buddha, who was born in the 4th century B.C.! We are obviously
talking about two different people! Furthermore, as he claims,
Shankara didn't even teach Adwaita!
