I really don't think Lawrence Welk had a clue about the word "toke" - or the group who wrote & performed the song. Having made Nixon's enemy's list and a special rebuke from Spiro T. Agnew, Michael Brewer and Tom Shipley perform their famous hit for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. They introduce the song with an interesting explanation and comment about their song having been performed on Larry Welk's show as a "Gospel" song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQrNWZ4Y5tU
