I attended the Kalachakra in Toronto last year. One day HH the Dalai Lama said that that morning one of the workmen near his hotel came to the car window to shake his hand. HH the Dali Lama was happy to shake the man's hand. He said it was really nice to actually meet someone because his security people were very fussy about it and had nearly had hearts-attack (heart-attacks ?) that morning. It is difficult to think of HH the Dalai Lama NOT winning peoples' respect and shaking someone's hand is hardly necessary for that. I think he just felt good being able to be an ordinary person for a few seconds, something I cannot attribute in any way to Maharishi!
