Thanks, Mark. That's about what I figured. This is consistent with things in L.A. about the time I left the movement. It was during the height of the first "off the program" hysteria, and a lot of dumb shit was being done by a lot of petty tyrants, but most people just ignored it and did their own thing. Although it isn't entirely relevant, the whole scene reminds me of a quote by Gordon Charrick, speaking of fundamentalist Christians: "You know that you have created God in your own image when He hates the same people you do."
