These are not actually planets as many of you know. They are opposite values of the same solar/lunar function with rahu being the shadow on the moon in a lunar eclipse and ketu being the shadow on the sun in a solar eclipse. There transits occur simultaneously.
Rahu Beeja Mantra – to be repeated 18,000 times. This is a Durga Mantra.
Om Kreem Kreem Hoom Hoom Tam Tam Kathaarinay Rahavai Hreem Sreem Bhaim Swaahaa
Especially useful in Rahu cycle and unfavourable transits.
Ketu Beeja Mantra – to be repeated 7,000 times. There is no mention in my notes as to which deity this mantra is associated with so I am assuming that it is also a Durga mantra like Rahu.
Om Hreem Kroom Krora Roopinai Kethavai Aim Sowh Swaahaa
Of course this is of especial use in ketu cycles and negative transits.
Many of you have asked why the particular number of repetitions of each of the mantras and why it varies from planet to planet. I can only say I don’t know. The repetitions correspond exactly to the number of years of each planetary cycle. Venus dasha or cycle is 20 years long and the Venus mantra is repeated 20,000 times. Saturn dasha is 19 years long and his mantra is repeated 19,000 times. That much is obvious. Why that particularity is made though was never explained to me and I was just so excited to be offered the mantras that it didn’t occur to me to ask. You know what that’s like. Traditionally, in grahashanti or planetary yagya the number of repetitions is determined by the length of the yagya, a full yagya being 151,000 repetitions and shorter yagyas being less.
