Greetings TMers and friends: The following message was posted today
to the usenet group misc.legal. It will also go out to
alt.meditation.transcendental, and perhaps elsewhere. It may have
interest for TM meditators, as the proposal it refers to specifically
recommends Maharishi's TM and TM-Sidhi programs as effective
techniques for spiritual or mind-body development. I'm a long-time
meditator and sidha, but I'm not a movement "insider", and I haven't
sought approval for this effort from Maharishi or the new corps of
Rajas. I have, hovever, sent the proposal to some active TM governors
and sidha friends. If there are any politically active meditators in
this group, especially those involved in community outreach, and most
especially if you're a meditating lawyer, I'd very much welcome your
comments or suggestions. I'm looking to identify that ideal location
(in the U.S., but maybe elsewhere), where something like this might
get off the ground.

If you post follow-ups to this here, you might also want to e-mail
them to me, as I'm not able to read this group as often as I'd like.

Regards
Alex

A Proposal and a New Paradigm

Hello Friends,

I'd like to invite you to examine a new website that may be of
interest to readers of this group. The evolution of political
thinking has brought us to a point where people are recognizing that
the age is calling for a new social paradigm, but the question seems
to be, how do we get there from here? Moreover, scholars in the
fields of law and government, economics and social science are
forming their theories, but few, if any, seem to be taking concrete
action. At the grass roots, on the streets and in the neighborhoods,
these guys are invisible. No one is taking a hands-on, leadership
role in our communities and municipalities - not in the U.S. they're
not. We simply don't have the best and brightest leading us in
government, at any level, from local to national. Furthermore, in
most cases there is a key ingredient missing from their theories:
spirituality.

Spirituality is a term that is widely misused and misunderstood. So
misused in fact, that smart people avoid dealing with it at all.
Though there have been points of light here and there throughout
history, the depth of ignorance in the spiritual field has been so
profound for so long, and the abuses by groups who claim some
spiritual connection have been so terrible, that people are rightly
hesitant about venturing into this area. In particular, we shy away
from relating spirituality to law and government, because even today
there are politicians who talk about doing "God's work" and so forth,
but who are very, very confused about what they're saying in this
regard.

If there are any enlightened lawyers out there, it's you folks that I
was hoping to connect with. The plan I've come up with aims to raise
our legal and judicial system out of the quagmire it's in. Not with
new legislation, nor by electing new politicians, or appointing new
judges, but with a totally different approach. You can read the
details online. There is a proposal outlined at this website:
http://www.CommunityConscienceAdvocate.org
It includes a case study that might be of particular interest to
students of criminal law. It also contains an ecological aspect that
I believe is enough out of the ordinary to merit the attention of
folks involved with the environment and environmental policy.

I'm proposing this plan to municipal leaders in parts of the U.S.
where there might be openness to something new; where the degree of
enlightenment might be a notch or two higher than the average
American city. Since I live in the D.C. area, I've also sent this out
to some local politicians, judges, government officials, university
professors and environmental activists in greater Washington. Please
check this out and feel free to send your suggestions or comments. I
would be especially interested in suggestions about cities, towns or
communities where a plan like this might have a chance of succeeding.
