This is another point in favor of reading posts in one's email client. When topics change, they change, and you see them as having changed. They're not confused with their "parent" thread. You can sort them by author, subject, or date received with a single click. You can create a folder and then create a rule to move all posts to that folder as they come in. If you don't like someone, you can create a rule to automatically delete his posts before you even see them. Etc.
