I'm "posting out" over this "AIG Whodunnit"
issue not just to point out Judy's bias
(although that's always fun) but because
of a seeming ignorance on this forum of a
basic fact about the News and "reporting."

EVERYONE IS BIASED

As far as I can tell, ALL media outlets are
biased and have a point of view that they
use in their reporting to "spin" things the
way they want. ALL of them have their own
Bad Guys and Good Guys when it comes to
"affixing blame."

I learned this early in life when a good
friend of mine in college wrote his Sociology
Masters thesis on the reporting of the Water-
gate scandal.

He compiled reporting on the scandal by sev-
eral of the major News outlets from the first
mention of the break-in through the resignation
of Richard Nixon. And it was utterly fascin-
ating. There was almost NO similarity in the
reports from each of these News outlets as to
who the Bad Guys were and who the Good Guys
were.

ALL of them took the same facts, as they were
revealed piece-by-piece over the course of the
investigation, and "spun" them to match the
POV and the political stance of the newspaper or
journal or network TV news outlet. ALL of them
"colored" the reporting to "affix blame" for
each new revelation on the "culprit du jour."

I was transfixed, reading his thesis and help-
ing him to edit it. It was as if I was reading
News reports from completely different universes.
The News reports often came out the *same day*,
based on the *same facts*, revealed the day
before, and yet ALL of them were completely
different in terms of their "spin" and who they
cast as the Bad Guys.

I think this is important to point out here on
Fairfield Life at this point in history. A *lot*
of what is posted here consists of people cutting
and pasting their favorite "News sources" to
support their own bias and "spin" the News and
"affix blame" to the people that THEY want to
"affix blame" to. Raunchy reads the pro-Hillary
blogs and reposts them here to demonize Obama,
the man who "done her wrong." Judy does the same
thing from time to time, and cuts and pastes her
own "preferred sources" to demonize the "culprit
du jour" that *her* bias wishes to affix blame
to. Willytex and some of the right-wingers do the
same thing with *their* "preferred News sources"
to cast the blame on the people *they* want to
demonize. And ALL of them seem to imply that
*their* News sources can be trusted.

Based on my friend's Masters thesis, and my own
experience watching the News over the decades,
I don't believe that ANY of these News sources
can be trusted.

They're ALL biased, because the stories are written
by human beings, and human beings are biased. And,
consciously or unconsciously, they are going to
"slant" or "spin" the stories they report to suit
those biases.

Color me cynical, but I think this is a good thing
to bear in mind next time someone here reposts some
article that is clearly intended to support *their*
biases -- whether it be about politics or the "TM
research," or reviewing a new movie or TV series.

My particular bias this week has been about OPINION.
It's been the "running theme" of most of my rants
all week. The reason is that I personally believe
that's all that is EVER expressed here on Fairfield
Life. Whether it be the OPINION of a regular poster
or the OPINION of some News article or blog being
reposted, it's all still OPINION.

And NONE of it is "fact" IMO. No matter how much
many people would like to pretend it is.

Including this rant. Somewhere in the universe,
there may be an exception to my general rule that
ALL News sources are biased. But I suspect that
exception does not report the News on planet Earth. :-)
