I was. Two comments:

1) the energy in the meditation halls was immense,
and I have trouble believing it was confined to just
the course participants.

2) As documented in press reports in recent years,
and obliquely at the Wikipedia page on Stanislav
Petrov, there was a deep fear in the Kremlin at the
time that Pres. Raygun was about to launch a
preemptive first strike. The Kremlin was considering
trying to be first. Regardless of your opinion about
the ME, it's interesting that Maharishi made an
unexpected visit to the College of Natural Law in D.C.
right around Thanksgiving and declared that it
was imperative that 7000 be assembled before the
end of the year. The Movement went into overdrive,
both at CNL and MIU to invite and prepare for 7000
people to descend on the MIU campus by Christmas.
It seems to me that Maharishi somehow "knew" that
something bad was brewing and was trying to disarm it,
even if he might not have been aware exactly what it
was.

Have I mentioned that the energy in the meditation
halls was immense?
