I just got back from seeing "Knowing" staring Nicolas Cage and directed
by Alex Proyas ("Dark City", "I, Robot"). This film has been panned a
bit by critics except for Roger Ebert and a lot of folks I read on
forums didn't care much for it either. Given that the general public
and many critics don't "get" these kind of films I had to go see for
myself. A couple of minuses was that for some reason Nicolas Cage is
prone to be too melodramatic or overacting a bit. The third act seemed
to lose some of its arc. Some people don't like the "religious"
significance at the end if you can call it that. But I thought it was
quite a bit better than M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening."
Another reason I had forgotten about that I wanted to see the film is
that it was shot using Red cameras:

These folks are promising us a $3500 pocket camera that is going to be
very capable of giving us top quality video. From the film it was hard
to tell the difference between the Red system and say Sony's Genesis
professional HD camera.
One more thing about this film is I would almost have to think the
writer was a fan of Major Ed Dames. Nuff said. ;-)
