I saw Fierce Creatures last night for the second time, but the first time was so long ago, I'd pretty much forgotten most of the film.
And, ahhhh, nice to not have perfect memory, eh? It's a gas, a goofy romp, and the script is very clever. The part of the dunce-son played by Kevin Kline reminded me of True Believers. Why? Cuz he was smart but completely invested in an agenda -- the other characters simply couldn't dent his POV because he had his attachment PLUS the power to ignore the others since he was the zoo owner's son. Isn't that like a TB here? Doesn't a TB have an agenda: "to protect their egoic investment in TM," and just as importantly, isn't it the case that the readers here simply do not have any power over them? So, here's the question: Does Nab or any other TB have the fucking guts to be as forthright about their hard-wired TM patterns in the real world? Do they have employers that know all about their cult beliefs and commitments? Is there a job out there that anyone of our TB's could get hired for if they made their views completely known to their employer-to-be? Now, Judy, is not on a staff, so she doesn't count. Employers can put up with all sorts of goofiness if it's only a consultant, but if they're hiring to get someone for eight hours a day and who will be interacting with their other employees, what employer would hire a TM TB if the employer had read, say, a year's worth of FFL posts? Are the TBs here paper-fanatics only -- only here where no one has power over them? Do they sell out by omission, by biting their tongue? When the boss says, "I know we're all overworked this week, and I wish I could give you something to help with the stress, but we just gotta get this production goal met," does Nab stand up and tell them about Creme-is-coming?...or that TM would completely erase their stresses? I don't know, but I do know my own cowardice in this regard -- I always was quiet about TM in my various jobs at non-meditating companies less I be pegged as a weird guy. I told them I meditated, but I never got serious on their asses about how much it would improve the business. How say you TBs out there? Got guts? Edg
