Raises an interesting question -- what is it that today's "conservatives" are actually trying to "conserve"? The budget? Personal freedoms? The environment? If you look at the deeds rather than the words, the "No" answer to these appears fairly obvious. It seems the only thing they're really trying to "conserve" (and grow) is the budget for the M-I complex (and again, it was *Eisenhouwer* who first warned us of this M-I danger, IIRC) -- coupled with the fear, hatred, and invasive "mind-your-neighbor's business" currently associated with a particularly virulent 19th- century brand of Christianity. What exactly is the definition of Fascism? Is it the system where a few large corporations rule the media and wield all the political power? In what way and to what extent is the US *not* fascist at this point? (Lest anyone think I am especially championing the Democrats here, I am not. I have seen somewhat the same trends on their watch, simply not as blatant and exaggerated....)
