I remember reading and listening to a lot of Eckhart...
He seems to be saying that the silent witness has no judgement.
From the perspective of no judgement, one can heal the conflict.
By following the energy of the thought and the feeling behind the thought,
and maintaining the witness, then a release happens...controversy..ends.
Another way, to accellerate the release:Allowing your attention to be drawn to your body, (as in the checking instructions);
An intensification of this healing can be accomplished by "opening" the crown chakra and letting in the light or energy of the soul, to "pour" onto the body.
This technique:
Visualize, with eyes closed, that you are looking up through the top of your head, as if there were a "sky/light" on your head;
And look up and "see" a bright light coming down into the top of your head and all the way down through your body, feeling it enlivening all of you body, and grounding deep into the earth.
This can be done for a few minutes until it becomes established and automatic..
Also, this technique, can be used to intensify a release when there is a sensation in the body, and allow your attention to be with the sensation or uncomfortableness in the body, focusting "the light of the soul" until you feel a "shift". Sometimes there will be an emotional insight, as to what was bound up in the energy field that was relaxed and released...
When the area has relaxed, then that is a sign that a release has taken place...
