John Kerry had the political connections not to have gone to Vietnam let alone come under fire(no one argues that he was involved in combat).Contrast this with George Bush who while strongly supporting the war in Vietnam clearly did not want to fight there(thus instead of joining the active military he joined the reserves virtually guaranteeing he would not be in combat).As a VA psychologist I have had many combat vets tell me that even if they disagreed with Kerry politically they respected his having served.OTOH many have been really pissed at Bush since the Iraq war started and Bush was coming off with statements like "bring it on".Bush IMO has much more to answer for re his service during the Vietnam conflict especially since he appears to have virtually no problem asking men in the military to do in Iraq what he himself was unwilling to do ie risk his life.
