...this date is the day that Ireland joined the mainland as the UK. But Ireland then broke away (except Northern Ireland). That date is equally as valid. What about England being conquered by King William of France in 1066. This seems more reasonable than eihter of the others as a birth date. Or the Viking warriors taking over rather earlier on.
